Care for leather products.

Everything that leaves our workshop will accompany you on your life journey for several (tens of) years. And we hope that they will be successful and happy years!

Quality leather, from which our products are made, ages beautifully. Developing a wonderful patina is a natural characteristic of leather. Like any other natural product, leather is more sensitive to external influences. Rain, dust, sweat, sunlight, all of these can ultimately lead to a shorter lifespan of the product, or a loss of its original aesthetic perfection.

And that’s precisely why it’s worthwhile for you in the long term to dedicate time and energy to regularly caring for your leather jacket, bag, wallet, purse, or any other leather product. So, we will introduce you to some principles on how to care for our leather products.

1. CLEANING LEATHER AS PREVENTION

Regular cleaning of leather will help restore the original quality and perfect look of your leather product. There’s no point in waiting until the product is visibly dirty. Even the pores of an impregnated product will accumulate invisible dirt over time, and the sooner you remove it, the better it is for the leather’s longevity.

If the product is not extremely soiled, a quality cleaning agent and a clean cotton cloth will be sufficient. Remember to always apply the foam to the cloth first and then onto the leather to prevent unwanted stains. Allow the leather to air dry naturally after application. For our products, we recommend Collonil Clean & Care.

2. REGULAR NOURISHMENT

Just as external moisture is undesirable, natural moisture in leather is important for its “healthy” appearance and elasticity. Therefore, it’s good to regularly nourish every leather product, and over the years, we’ve found that the colorless Collonil Organic Protect spray works best for us.

Nourishing leather isn’t just about moisturizing it to prevent visible dryness over time. Regular application of cream/spray will also ensure uniformity of color for the product.

One practical recommendation in conclusion: apply the cream in several small doses with a clean cloth using quick circular motions. This will help you easily create an equally thick layer across the entire surface of the product.

3. IMPREGNATION

Regular impregnation with a quality product (from our own experience, we recommend Collonil Carbon Pro) protects leather products from the penetration of grease, moisture, and other dirt. Therefore, it is especially important for accessories and clothing items that often come into direct contact with unpredictable weather conditions – typically shoes, jackets, or bags. Impregnation also serves as prevention against more extensive soiling.

Impregnation “seals” the pores of the leather and creates an invisible protective layer on its surface. Collonil Carbon Pro, which we use ourselves, goes so far as to cover the leather with a semi-permeable membrane. Thanks to this, dirt and moisture cannot reach the leather, while it can still “breathe”.

It’s important to remember that impregnation is never permanent and should be reapplied according to how often you use the product and how frequently it comes into contact with external influences. After evenly applying the impregnation from 20-30cm onto the leather, let the product air dry naturally for several hours to a day.

WHAT HARMS LEATHER THE MOST?

Never use soaps or any other chemical agents for cleaning.

Protect leather from rain and moisture. If your product gets wet, let it air dry naturally. Never place it near a heater or an open flame (it could crack).

IRONING LEATHER

Never iron leather directly! However, you can iron leather through a cloth or another piece of fabric. Leather jackets, coats, bags, or purses can be ironed in this way. It’s important to be careful when ironing to avoid direct contact with the leather. Ironing can also be accompanied by treating the leather to moisten its structure. Apply Collonil Organic Protect before ironing; it’s a proven method.
